Table Linens

This is a blanket term we use for all fabric-based products used to decorate a table. This can include a tablecloth, various types of napkins, a placemat, and a runner, all of which can vary in size. Each has a purpose we will showcase and explain in order to help you improve your table décor!

Tablecloths

Every part of the table can be set up with ease, but the tablecloth is what puts everything together and set the precedent for how the rest of your table décor should look. Coming in multiple sizes/arrangements and made for square, rectangular, or even circular tables, tablecloths capture the attention of the whole room. Whenever you’re coming up with a setup for you dining room or whichever table you choose to decorate, make sure that the tablecloth is the FIRST part you figure out.

Fabric Table Napkins

Paper napkins can be used for general gatherings, but fabric napkins are reusable and can better compliment the rest of the table linens you’ve selected for each guest. Generally, you can place them on each guest’s plate or place them on the side of/below the utensils. A set of napkins usually matches the placemat and tablecloth chosen in some way, so be sure to find one that matches.

Placemats

To finish each guest’s set-up, you’ll want to get yourself a matching placemat. Placed below each guest’s plate, utensils, and napkin, a placemat sets the space laid out for each individual guest or can even be used to compliment the bottom of a cooked meal or even other table decorations.

Runners

A runner is similar to a tablecloth in that it is made to sprawl across the length of the table, but that is where the similarities end. Unlike other table linens, a runner is purely decorative, unless it is being used in the absence of a tablecloth. Even in the absence of a tablecloth, a runner should still be matching the placemat and napkins used.

Tea Towels

While they are far more than just a dining table decoration, tea towels are another addition to this list we recommend considering. While a tea towel is typically hanged in order to look nice in the kitchen and be used for cleaning, but they can also be used for their aesthetics on the dining room table.

Cocktail Napkins

Outside of standard table décor, cocktail napkins are a fun addition to any drinking occasion. They are meant to prevent water rings from forming on the table below your drink, as well as adding some more style. If you do decide to use them with your table linens, they can easily be added into the table’s existing aesthetic.

Glassware

Leaving the focus on table linens, there’s a few more decorations we’d like to recommend, starting with your choice of glassware. Having a well-set table is one thing, but even the plates your guests eat from and the style of the glass they drink from can add to the table’s overall look.

Vases

Adding a vase to your table is a good way of adding some style to your table. While some vases may benefit from being left empty, using one for a bouquet of flowers can have a greater effect on the appeal of the entire table!

Serving Bowls

Usually more practical than decorative, there’s no reason a serving bowl can’t be good looking too! So long as the food is to your guest’s liking, a well-fashioned serving bowl can only help the table’s aesthetic.
