What is a Cashmere Blanket?
A typical cashmere blanket is created from the fibers of a Cashmere Goat, coming from China, Mongolia, and like most of our cashmere blankets, the Himalayas. Compared to wool, cashmere is usually finer, only being 14-19 microns in diameter. This difference in size makes it less itchy and much smoother than most blanket throws.
Though 100% cashmere is the most luxurious choice, there also exists blends that use wool, cotton, and/or silk to give it more durability (as well as make it more affordable). Despite this difference in longevity, cashmere blankets treated with proper care can last decades. Cashmere is also a very eco-friendly material, as it is ethically sourced, making it a symbol of consumer consciousness while still being known for high-end luxury.
Why Pick a Cashmere Blanket Over Other Materials?
Compared to synthetic materials, cashmere blankets resist wrinkles, odors, and piling much better, while still lasting a pretty long time. It is also softer than traditional wool and can be up to 8 times more insulating too. It traps heat during the winter but still remains breathable, making it perfect all year long. Lastly, cashmere has moisture-wicking properties that will absorb dampness, keeping you dry and comfortable, which is great for those who suffer from night sweats.
Cashmere can be pricier than most alternatives, but the difference in quality is certainly worth it, especially if the blanket is OEKO-TEX certified.

How to Take Care of Your Cashmere Blanket Throw
If taken care of carefully, Cashmere Blankets can last you an incredible amount of time. Aside for the care tag on the product, here are some guidelines for taking care of them.
Hand washing them in lukewarm water with cashmere shampoo is the best way to preserve them!
Soak for 15 to 30 minutes, squeeze with the applied shampoo, then rinse it out with cold water.
Machine washing is fine so long as it is on a wool cycle set to a low spin.
Air dry on a flat surface to prevent it from stretching, DO NOT tumble dry.
Use a cashmere brush to help prevent pilling.
Store your cashmere blanket in a cool, dry place (consider cedar blocks to protect them from moths).
Dry cleaning delicate linens is also an option.
